A/Prof Jeff Hansen

Jeff Jeff is a coastal physical oceanographer with expertise in surface waves, nearshore and coastal processes, marine renewable energy, and coastal remote sensing. He joined the University of Western Australia in 2013 and is currently an Associate Professor. His current research focuses on developing methods to improve the forecasting of waves as well as understanding hydrodynamic processes in and around natural and artificial reefs, particularly understanding how these reefs impact sediment transport processes. To inform a variety of research projects he began deploying wave buoys in Western Australia in 2019 and this program has now grown to 30 moored and drifting wave buoys with all data available in near real time on www.wawaves.org.

Dr Salman Saeed Khan

Salman Salman is a Senior Research Scientist at CSIRO Environment business unit's sea-level, waves and remote sensing team. His research uses remote sensing to create long-term records of ocean surface waves, winds, and related observations, which provide critical information for coastal hazards planning and are also in high demand from Australian offshore industries (oil & gas, marine renewable energy, fisheries etc.), and research communities to support research, development and planning of blue economy activities.
Salman is interested in bringing satellite ocean surface observations closer to the coast, improving global and regional models by using high quality observations, and using blended model-observation products to study mean sea-state climate, extreme events, and their impacts.
Salman's previous research interests and experiences include working on a range of Earth Observation applications spanning satellite oceanography, remotely sensed archaeological survey of tropical rainforests, satellite derived land use and land cover mapping, and statistical modelling of microwave radar signals.

John Ryan

John John Ryan is a Principal Scientist in the Queensland Government Hydraulics Laboratory (QGHL) within the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI). John has managed the Queensland Government's storm tide and wave monitoring networks for the last 15 years.

Dr Cyprien Bosserelle

Cyprien Cyprien is a Hydrodynamics Modeller at the New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA). His research interests include coastal physical oceanography and coastal sediment transport. He has a particular interest in processes related to surface ocean waves reefed coast hydrodynamics and the simulation of these processes with numerical models. Cyprien's future research plans are to improve the current knowledge on nearshore waves and beach dynamics and also to continue developing numerical models and in particular the morphodynamics and dispersal models that he has created.

Dr Sarah McSweeney

Sarah Sarah McSweeney is a coastal geomorphologist at Canterbury University, New Zealand, with a BSc (hons) (first class) in Physical Geography from Canterbury University and a PhD in Coastal Geomorphology from the University of Melbourne. Sarah's work focuses on the interactions between waves, sea level, climate drivers (e.g. ENSO), and coastal sediment transport and how these processes shape our coastlines. Sarah is passionate about undertaking research that is useful in practice for coastal communities and managers. Sarah recently led the development of the South Island Wave Monitoring Network, the first open access and muli-regional wave buoy network for New Zealand.

Dr Stefan Zieger

Stefan Stefan is a Senior Research Scientist in the Research Program and is the wave modelling lead at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. His interests include numerical modelling, wave verification, and wave climate. Stefan graduated in the field of Cartography as a Civil Engineer in Germany, before completing his PhD in Oceanography at Swinburne University in Australia.

Dr Alberto Meucci

Alberto Alberto holds a position as a Research Fellow in Ocean Wave Climate modelling at the University of Melbourne, and as an Adjunct Research Scientist at CSIRO collaborating in the Australian Climate Service Working Package 3 on coastal extreme sea level modelling effort. He has multiple years of experience in global spectral wave modelling and statistical analysis of extreme sea states from different modelled and observational datasets. Alberto graduated as a Civil Engineer in Italy, he specialized in Hydraulic Civil Engineering by attending a joint European study program between the University of Florence, Italy, and the IHE-Water Institute in Delft, the Netherlands. He then moved to Melbourne, where he completed his PhD in Ocean Engineering on global historical and projected extreme sea state estimates. He has recently completed the new Australian CMIP6 wind-wave climate 8-model ensemble in collaboration with CSIRO. His research focuses on climate change impacts on wind-wave extremes with an interest in spectral wave model representation of extra-tropical storms and their impacts on Australian coastlines.

A/Prof. Graziela Miot da Silva

Graziela Graziela is an oceanographer and coastal geomorphologist with a BSc in Oceanography from the University of Vale do Itajaí (UNIVALI), Brazil, and a Master's Degree and Ph.D. in Marine Geology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. Her areas of expertise are sediment transport processes (wind and wave/tide), beach and dune evolution and morphodynamics and numerical modelling of coastal processes. Her research has also included efforts in data measurement and ocean instrumentation. She is based at Flinders University in Adelaide (SA) and is the Deputy Node Leader of the SA-IMOS.

Dr Henrique Rapizo

Henrique Henrique is a Senior Physical Oceanographer at the Meteorological Service of New Zealand, leading the wave forecast system and operations. He specialised in numerical modelling, coastal dynamics and marine forecasting. Henrique has worked on many consultancy and coastal modelling projects and helped create tailored forecast products and solutions for a diverse range of clients such as ports, regional councils and offshore companies.

Dr Marzieh H. Derkani

Marzieh Marzieh is a Research Fellow at an Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Hub for Transforming Energy Infrastructure through Digital Engineering (TIDE) at School of Earth and Oceans, the University of Western Australia (UWA). Her research at UWA is focused on improving wave forecasts using data science techniques e.g., data assimilation.
She holds a PhD in Ocean Engineering from the University of Melbourne as well as a MSc in Coastal Engineering and a BSc in Civil Engineering. Further to her academic pursuits, Marzieh has gained professional experiences in the industry over multiples years working as a Civil and Coastal Engineer in Australia and overseas.

Andrew Bradford

Andrew Andrew is an Associate Principal at Baird Australia with Bachelor of Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of New South Wales. He has 18 years of industry experience providing professional services and project management with a focus on metocean data collection and analysis. His particular expertise is in the development and maintenance of port real-time metocean monitoring systems, covering system design and software development, management of field servicing, and data analysis and management.
Andrew currently leads Baird's operational metocean services providing forecasting and data processing systems to government and industry clients. He also contributes to metocean and port operations studies.
